Barbra Streisand to Direct Margaret Bourke-White & Erskine Caldwell Love Story
Streisand will direct a yet-to-be titled love story based on the relationship between photographer Margaret Yourke-White and author Erskine Caldwell This will be her first directorial since The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), in which she starred along with Jeff Bridges. Streisand will receive the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s annual Gala on April 22. Deadline reports.

Hollywood Actors and Directors Pay Tribute to Roger Ebert
The film critic died on Wednesday at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer. Martin Scorsese, who is producing a documentary on Ebert, called his death “an incalculable loss” while Oscar-winning actor Samuel L. Jackson called him “the real deal” in a tribute tweet. Steven Spielberg praised Ebert for his “talent and his flexibility,” adding it was “the end of an era.” And this year’s Oscar host, Seth MacFarlane, said called him “one of the few critics who had actually written films. His opinion always mattered to me.” BBC reports.

HBO Planning Nora Ephron Doc
Ephron’s son, journalist Jacob Bernstein, is developing what is being described as an intimate portrait of his mother. The writer/director, known for such films as When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail. He will direct and co-produce the project, which is titled Everything is Copy. Jane Campion to Receive Carrosse d’Or
The New Zealand filmmaker will receive the honorary award at the opening night of Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. The award is a tribute paid by the directors of the Film Directors’ Guild to one of their own chosen from the international filmmaking community for “innovative qualities, the courage and independent mindedness of his or her work.” Screen Daily reports.

Queen Elizabeth II Given Lifetime BAFTA Award
Sir Kenneth Branagh and George Lucas were on hand for a ceremony at Windsor Castle honoring H.M. the Queen with a Lifetime Achievement Award for supporting British film throughout her reign. Branagh presented the BAFTA noting her appearance in a Bond-related skit during the Olympics, saying the monarch had received many scripts. “Not all of them are fully funded, but with Your Majesty attached, they would be bound to get funding.” The Guardian reports.
