The 65th Locarno Film Festival wrapped up over the weekend in Switzerland awarding its top prize, the Golden Leopard, to Jean-Claude Brisseau's The Woman From Nowhere (La Fille de Nulle Part) from France. Bob Byington's American indie, Somebody Up There Likes Me, won a special jury prize.

Yung Liang won the the award for best director for When Night Falls (Wo Hai You Hua Yao Shuo), while the film's star An Nai won the prize for best actress in the South Korean/Chinese film. The best actor award went to Walter Saabel for his role in Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel's The Shine of the Day (Der Glanz des Tages) from Austria. The jury also awarded a special mention to Candy for her performance in João Pedro Rodrigues' The Last Time I Saw Macao (A Última Vez Que Vi Macau).

Pedro González-Rubio's Inori, produced by filmmaker Naomi Kawase, won the top prize in the Filmmakers of the Present competition for emerging directors. Joel Potrykus won the award for best director for Ape in the section and the film also won a special mention in the competition for best first film. Song Fang from China won the award for best first feature for Memories Look At Me (Ji Yi Wang Zhe Wo).

Finally, in the audience award competition for films screening in the massive outdoor Piazza Grande, Cate Shortland's Lore won the public prize while Noémie Lvovsky's Camille Redouble was the runner-up.
