FilmLinc Podcast: On the Eve of "The Single Most Important Film Event in the World"

The Cannes Film Festival begins tomorrow morning in Cannes, kicking off with the first screening of Woody Allen's fest opener, Midnight in Paris.

Press and industry will get a peek at the film first, before Woody & Co. ascend the red steps to the Lumière theater for the opening gala tomorrow evening.

On the eve of the event, a team from the Film Society arrived here in Cannes to settle in for the fest. I sat down with Lincoln Center colleagues Richard Peña and Scott Foundas this afternoon for a bit of quick preview of this year's festival in FilmLinc.com's first audio podcast from France.

No other film festival comes close to Cannes, Peña explained during the brief conversation. “Cannes sets the agenda,” the veteran reiterated. He's here in the South of France for his 29th festival. Foundas on the other hand is in his ninth year, recently making the leap from journalist to full-time programmer after leaving LA Weekly to join the Film Society of Lincoln Center.

Foundas is looking forward to the Moretti film, among others and he also explained a bit about a Jennifer Beals link that will become apparent once the festival's competition gets underway.
