A scene from David Lowery's Ain't Them Bodies Saints.

Cannes Critics' Week (Semaine de la Critique) unveiled 20 films on Monday that will screen in its 52nd edition alongside the Official Selection of the Festival de Cannes. Opening the sidebar is French director Katell Quillévéré's Suzanne, described by Critics Week Artistic Director Charles Tesson as a “strong, emotionally charged offering.” This year's competition and Special Screenings features offer a consistent theme, according to Tesson, centering on “intimate or professional relationships between characters.”

This year, seven features and 10 shorts will screen in competition, with only one short, David Lassiter's The Opportunist, joining the lineup from the U.S. David Lowery's Sundance debut Ain't Them Bodies Saints, starring Rooney Mara, Ben Foster and Casey Affleck, will play in the section as a Special Screening. Critics' Week will announce its Closing Night selection at a later date.

“[This Critics' Week] offers its audience the pleasure of escaping through masterful films playing with genre films' codes,” said Tesson. “The 52nd Critics' Week remains faithful to its mission to reveal bold, daring talent and to show new roads that break the rules.”
