Noah Baumbach has been a regular visitor to the Film Society of Lincoln Center since his debut feature, Kicking and Screaming, played the 33rd New York Film Festival in 1995. The film, starring Josh Hamilton, Elliott Gould, Parker Posey, Chris Eigeman, and Eric Stoltz, will have a 20th anniversary screening at the Film Society as part of Growing Up Baumbach on March 17.

The director’s latest film, While We’re Young, starring Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, and Adam Driver, will screen in the one-day series with Baumbach in person for Q&A. While We’re Young follows a middle-aged couple whose careers and marriage are overturned when a disarming young couple enters their lives.

The three-title event also includes Baumbach’s Oscar-nominated 2005 film, The Squid and the Whale, starring Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, Jesse Eisenberg, and Owen Kline (an NYFF43 selection).

With less than a week to go before Growing Up Baumbach, part of a traveling retrospective heading to over a dozen U.S. cities, we’re looking back at the filmmaker’s previous visits to the Film Society through images taken by veteran photographer David Godlis.
