Binoche, Stewart and Moretz Set for Assayas’ “Sils Maria”

French filmmaker Olivier Assayas.

French filmmaker Olivier Assayas is bringing together an international cast for his latest project, Sils Maria, which starts shooting this month. Assayas has been a regular at the New York Film Festival, screening There's Something in The Air at last year's 50th NYFF. He also brought his 2008 feature Summer Hours to the festival and debuted titles throughout the '90s at the annual event including L'eau froide ('94), Irma Vep ('96) and Last August, Early September ('98).

His latest feature brings together French star Juliette Binoche (Camille), Twilight mega-star Kristen Stewart, Chloë Moretz, German actor Daniel Brühl (Inglorious Basterds), British actor Tom Sturridge (Good Morning England and On The Road, which he co-starred with Stewart), Simon Killer actor Brady Corbet and Downfall's Bruno Ganz in a screenplay that's also written by Assayas, according to The Playlist and Cineuropa.

The story centers on actress Maria Enders, played by Binoche, who is reflective of her life and career. She is confronted with a combination of ageism and insecurities brought about by a role she played two decades prior. Stewart will play her assistant, according to The Film Stage, while Moretz will play a young actress and Brühl will portray a well-liked director.

IFC Films, which has released a number of Assayas' latest films Stateside, will eventually bring the film here, though it will likely have a festival run beforehand. Cannes is a likely first stop. Filming, which is set for Germany, Switzerland and Italy, will continue through October.
