The Transmedia New York City Meetup is at the Film Society tonight, hosting their monthly gathering inside the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center Amphitheater.

The first in a series led by The Art of Immersion author Frank Rose, this meetup features Frank in conversation with Transmedia Storyteller Nate Goldman whose story is documented in his book. Also on tap is Sylvain Leroux from Orange in France, talking about Fanfan2.

About the speakers

FRANK ROSE is the author of The Art of Immersion: How the Digital Generation is Remaking Hollywood, Madison Avenue, and the Way We Tell Stories, recently published in the U.S. and the U.K. by W.W. Norton (www.artofimmersion.com). As a contributing editor at Wired for more than a decade, he has written extensively about the intersection of media and technology, covering such topics as the making of Avatar, Sony’s enormous gamble on the PlayStation 3, and the posthumous career of Philip K. Dick in Hollywood. He also contributes to Wired’s Epicenter blog and to his own blog on the future of narrative, Deep Media.

NATE GOLDMAN  (www.nategoldman.com) is a writer, director, producer and the creator of the transmedia production Undead End. He also writes for The Next Great Generation covering topics at the intersection of new media and entertainment. Graduating from Boston University in May 2011 with a degree in advertising, Nate plans to move to New York and continue to create transmedia stories. Twitter: @NateGoldman

Nate's project Undead End is a transmedia radio drama inspired by Orson Welles' 1938 performance of H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds. Told via radio news broadcasts and across multiple media channels, the story centers around GeneEva Research Labs and its Head Science Officer Dr. Daniel Matheson. The goal of the lab's research is to engineer a set of treatments that “usher in the next stage of human evolution.” But when word leaks out that GeneEva's research is funded by the US Department of Defense, people begin to wonder the true nature of their research. As events unfold, questions arise: What kind of research were they doing at GeneEva? How long has it been going on? And does it have anything to do with this strange virus wreaking havoc across the city? Undead End was syndicated on WZBC Boston and modified to air on WPHZ in Bloomington, Indiana and had over 6500 listeners.

The second half of this month's meetup features Sylvain Leroux presenting Fanfan2, a transmedia collaboration between author Alexandre Jardin and Orange France. A romantic drama which played out across multiple platforms, this pioneering transmedia project was made widely available to audiences in France.
