Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence
Two movies that we welcome back to the big screen today could not be more different. Both released in 1993, they have withstood the test of time and are more loved today than they have ever been. First up is Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence. While it might seem like an odd departure from his usual gangster flicks, this stunning film seems like one of Scorsese’s greatest—as visually expressive as it is emotionally fine-tuned, the movie is a magnificent lament for lost time. Go back to Edith Wharton’s Old New York with director Martin Scorsese, actress Winona Ryder, and editor Thelma Schoonmaker in person for tonight’s screening at 6:00pm.
Tonight we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dazed and Confused by inviting director Richard Linklater and members of the cast to watch and discuss the excellent stoner comedy. It’s a perfect, semi-autobiographical film about the last day of high school in 1976, extending through the hard-partying night into the next morning. All of the tie-dye '70’s fabulousness returns to the big screen at 9:00pm tonight.
If you want to start a little earlier than the 70’s, our Godard retrospective continues with the 1968 film Weekend. Godard’s farewell to commercial cinema begins as a savage critique of French bourgeois/consumer culture and ends in a state of pastoral calm. This unforgiving, incendiary and wildly inventive film comes to new life tonight on the big screen in 35mm.
How Democracy Works Now: Mountains and Clouds
Documentaries are in strong showing today. Political doc series How Democracy Works Now kicks off today with three entries. In The Game Is On, we follow as the late senator Ted Kennedy's works with bipartisan leaders to try and pass a progressive bill on immigration reform. In Mountains and Clouds, we return to their story as the struggle towards a bill that makes everyone happy. It is slow-going work, and by Last Best Chance, Kennedy has to decide how much can be compromised in order to pass any immigration reform at all. Rush tickets are available to all three screenings.
Directors Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson’s documentary American Promise is about a different side of American Society. They followed two childhood friends through their tenure at the prestigious Dalton School. For fourteen years the documentary follows these boys in a frank accounting of the state of our supposedly “post-racial” society

Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive
If today isn’t already exciting enough with 20th anniversaries, groundbreaking documentaries, and short films, there are three more films to choose from! The passionate and poetic My Name Is Hmmm…, a story about a young girl trying to put the bad times behind her starts us off at 12:00pm. Next is Only Lovers Left Alive, with Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston starring as the literal first couple, Adam and Eve, centuries-old vampires in this witty take on the bloodsucking genre. We welcome director Jim Jarmusch and actors Tilda Swinton and Jeffrey Wright at the screening tonight at 6:00pm. Finally we have All is Lost starring Robert Redford fighting for survival alone on a boat. Previous screenings have left audiences breathless in standing ovations. Be a part of it tonight at 9:00pm.
