Noémie Lvovsky, director and star of Camilles Rewinds

The 50th New York Film Festival launches into an exciting program today with a special reunion of The Princess Bride creators and cast, a free panel discussion hosted by New York Women in Film and Television, silent film The Overcoat with live musical accompanimnet by our friends at the Alloy Orchestra, and, of course, an array of amazing films from the Main Slate, Masterworks, and Men in Cinema sections.

Camille Rewinds will kickstart the day at 12.30pm, with the director and star of the film, NoĂ©mie Lvovsky, appearing in person. Lvovsky’s time traveling romantic-comedy gives Frances Ford Coppola’s Peggy Sue Got Married a French twist, as divorcĂ©e-to-be Camille wakes up back in the mid-80s as a teen, meeting her future husband for the first time… a second time around.  Following that hilarious and heartfelt comedy, You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet (rush tickets available!)—from 90-year-old master French filmmaker Alain Resnais, who also had a film in the very first NYFF in 1963!—and the critically acclaimed Here and There by Antonio MĂ©ndez Esparza will both be screening at 6:00pm.

Rob Reiner's The Princess Bride

Today's schedule also includes a special 25th anniversary screening of The Princess Bride at 9.00pm with director Rob Reiner, screenwriter William Goldman and cast members Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, Carol Kane, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn and Robin Wright in person. As one of the festival's most momentous occasions, Film Society's Progam Associate Director Scott Founders commented, “We're delighted to screen Rob Reiner and William Goldman's wry, irreverent and thoroughly enchanting fable on this historic anniversary, from a beautiful 35mm print, in the presence of so many members of its original creative team.” Inconceivable!

As part of our NYFF Live series, a discussion with New York Women in Film and Television is also in store for today, as panelists Alex Halpern, CEO and Founder of Post Factory, and Managing Director of post-production accounting firm Trevanna Post, Yana Collins Lehman, will discuss the New York State Post Production Tax Credit with Richard Guay as a moderator. Sure to raise interesting and thought-provoking questions about legislation that will affect the making of feature films and television series, this Amphitheater talk is free and open to the public, and will also be streamed live on YouTube at 7:00pm for those at home.
