The film has been a hit at festivals like Telluride, Venice, and Toronto. Based on the short-story collection by James Franco (who also co-stars), writer-director Gia Coppola’s mesmerizing debut chronicles the interconnected lives of several high-school students in the affluent title California city. The film also stars Emma Roberts, Chris Messina, Val Kilmer, and newcomer Jack Kilmer (Val's son).
