This year the Film Society of Lincoln Center is especially pleased to present our New York Film Festival Forums, a new series of free panels and conversations that will run concurrently with the festival. The talks, set to feature luminaries like Pedro Almodóvar and Wes Anderson, will be held at the Amphitheater of the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center (144 W 65th St) and the Apple Store on the Upper West Side (1981 Broadway).

“Beyond the Screen: The Immersive Storytelling Forum,” a special set of four panels taking place this weekend, will explore how digital culture has changed the relationship between storytellers and audiences. Join writers, producers, and video game and transmedia designers to explore, for example, the challenges in creating a participatory video game narrative that can run 40 hours, or how web-savvy advocacy groups and traditional documentary filmmakers coexist with the emergence of so-called “transmedia activism.” What happens when storytelling becomes a conversation along different platforms? And how does transmedia work, anyway? These special panels and presentations will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Amphitheater.

Another group of forums, “indieWIRE Meets,” will include a discussion at the Amphitheater with Pedro Almodóvar on The Skin I Live In, his new feature in the Main Slate of the festival, and a conversation with the NYFF selection committee (Richard Peña, Todd McCarthy, Dennis Lim, Scott Foundas and Melissa Anderson) to be held this Saturday, also at the Ampitheater. Wes Anderson, at the festival to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of The Royal Tenenbaums, will be at the Apple Store on Oct. 13.

The Producers and Writers Guilds East and SAGindie are also set to present several talks, including a program on female producers throughout the history of the movies and two panels on how writing about New York City has changed, all to be held at the Ampitheater.

Antonio Banderas (at the Apple Store Oct. 13), Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (Oct. 5 at the Ampitheater) and many more are also with us for the forums, all of which are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis.
