The 54th New York Film Festival opened with the world premiere of Ava DuVernay’s powerful documentary, 13TH. Friday’s Opening Night festivities included a red carpet, packed screenings, and an after party with a special live performance by Common. On Saturday, our NYFF Live free talks series provided a follow-up discussion with many of the film’s key voices.

Saturday night brought the New York premiere of Kenneth Lonergan’s much-anticipated Manchester by the Sea, followed by a Q&A with cast and crew. Jim Jarmusch’s documentary, Gimme Danger, which traces the history of The Stooges, also screened with a Q&A featuring Iggy Pop himself.

The 54th New York Film Festival runs September 30 – October 16 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Stay tuned to our blog for even more photos from opening weekend, as well as podcasts and video coverage throughout the festival!
