Quevenzhané Wallis Set for Annie
The star of Beasts of the Southern Wild didn't score an Oscar Sunday night, but the young actress did land the title role of Annie via Columbia Pictures. Will Gluck will direct the new version of the classic staged play Annie from a revised screenplay written Emma Thompson. “With the recent Academy Award-nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhané Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star,” said Hannah Minghella, Columbia's president of production. “She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency Photoshopped images of First Lady Michelle Obama's dress to conform to Iranian restrictions on what it can show of the female body. “Rules dictate that Iranian women shown on Iran's state television should have a hijab that covers their hair, arms and legs. The length of the censor's ruler varies for foreigners,” writes The Guardian.

Marion Cotillard Set for Dardenne Brothers' Deux Jours, Une Nuit
Cotillard has signed on to star in celebrated two-time Palme d'Or winning Belgian directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne's Deux Jours, Une Nuit. She will play Sandra, a young woman who has only one weekend to convince her colleagues they must give up their bonuses in order for her to keep her job. The Dardennes' last film, The Kid with a Bike, screened at the New York Film Festival in 2011. Dardenne collaborator Fabrizio Rongione will play Cotillard’s husband in the social drama, Deadline reports.

Coen Brothers to Rewrite Angelina Jolie's Unbroken
The Coen brothers have been tapped to rewrite Unbroken, the adaptation of Laura Hillenbrand's 2010 book. Angelina Jolie joined the project as director in December for the story about World War II hero Lou Zamperini. Zamperini was an L.A. high school track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In 1943, his air force plane crashed in the Pacific and he survived without food and water for 47 days, enduring shark attacks. He eventually washed ashore on a Japanese island behind enemy lines where he was a prisoner of war for two years, THR reports.

Gérard Depadieu Wants to Shoot Film in Chechnya
Fresh from obtaining a Russian passport after leaving his native France, supposedly to avoid paying a possible 75% income tax, actor Gérard Depardieu partied with the pro-Kremlin leader of Chechnya and said he'd like to make a film there. “I would really like to shoot a film here and show that it's possible to do that here in Grozny, shoot a great film… I can't reveal all the details now, but we'll come back here and this is only the beginning,” he's quoted as saying in The Guardian.
