Hometown filmmaker Robert Rodgriguez will debut his latest film Machete Kills at Austin's Fantastic Fest on September 19. The World Premiere will open the genre-heavy film festival with stars Danny Trejo and Alexa Vega as well as Rodriguez joining the festivities at the new Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline location.
In the film, Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man—he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who have hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet. The film also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Gudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Mel Gibson.
“Every year we compile our dream targets for opening night film; Machete Kills was at the top of that list,” said Fantastic Fest Co-founder & Creative Director Tim League. “We are going to pull out all the stops to ensure Robert's world premiere red carpet experience is literally blood red.”
