On this week’s episode of our podcast, we’re looking back at a hilarious conversation between Judd Apatow and Lena Dunham from earlier this year. To hear more in-depth conversations like this one, subscribe to The Close-Up on iTunes and, if you like what you hear, leave us a review!

Apatow joined us in July on the occasion of the world premiere of his latest film, Trainwreck, which was written by and stars Amy Schumer and is now available on DVD. Leading up to the premiere, which took place in Alice Tully Hall, we celebrated Apatow’s career with a retrospective called I Found This Funny: the Comedy World of Judd Apatow. The series included screenings of his most beloved films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Funny People; a free marathon of Paul Feig’s seminal late-90s TV series Freaks and Geeks; and a special live conversation moderated by Lena Dunham, whose hit HBO show, Girls, is produced by Apatow. In their hilarious and wide-ranging conversation, the two collaborators discussed their writing process, feminism, comedy, and more.
