On this week’s podcast, we’re sharing the Opening Night Q&A from this year’s Dance on Camera Festival, which was co-presented with Dance Films Association; and a Q&A from a recent screening of Loving, whose star Ruth Negga is nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award.

Anatomy of a Male Ballet Dancer, David Barba and James Pellerito’s loving profile of dancer Marcelo Gomes, opened the 45th edition of our Dance on Camera series. Through archival footage, rehearsal, and privileged backstage and dressing room interviews, the filmmakers deliver an intimate portrait of Gomes’s journey from his native Brazil to the American Ballet Theatre, with whom he is celebrating his 20th anniversary in 2017. Following the screening, Barba, Pellerito, and Gomes joined us for a Q&A.

Loving tells the true story of Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple whose 1967 Supreme Court case ended laws prohibiting interracial marriage. The film stars Joel Edgerton and Oscar nominee Ruth Negga and was written and directed by Jeff Nichols.  Following a recent screening here at the Film Society, Jeff Nichols and Ruth Negga joined Film Comment Editor Nicolas Rapold to talk about the film.
