In conjunction with the release of John Lewis: Good Trouble, the highly anticipated new film from acclaimed documentarian and activist Dawn Porter (opening July 3 in our Virtual Cinema), Film at Lincoln Center is proud to host a special conversation with Porter, producer Erika Alexander, and composer Tamar-kali. The film, which has already been named essential viewing, combines interviews and rare archival footage to chronicle John Lewis’s legendary 60-plus years of social activism and legislative action. “John Lewis is the movie star of the summer” hails IndieWire.

The extended conversation will be moderated by Eugene Hernandez, Deputy Executive Director of Film at Lincoln Center and Director of the New York Film Festival.

Combining rare archival footage and interviews—with congressional newcomers including Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Civil Rights Movement giants like James Clyburn and the late Elijah Cummings—the documentary looks back on its subject’s 60-plus years of social activism and legislative action on civil rights, voting rights, gun control, healthcare reform and immigration.
