Free Talks: Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi (Meru)
Jimmy Chin is a professional mountaineer, director, and adventure-sports photographer whose dramatic lensing of severe environments has been featured in National Geographic, Adventure, ESPN magazine, and The North Face. His latest adventure is told in the film Meru, in which he and veteran climbers Conrad Anker and Renan Ozturk struggle to scale Mount Meru, one of the most dangerous yet irresistible challenges in the high-stakes game of Himalayan big-wall climbing.
An Audience Award winner at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Meru provides viewers the visceral experience of going on a death-defying alpine big-wall climb. It also examines the nuances of following a passion, and how it is often fraught with internal struggle and uncertainty. The film was co-directed by Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi. Her other documentaries include Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love, A Normal Life, Touba, and the upcoming Incorruptible.
Join Chin and Vasarhelyi, who will share highlights from their treacherous experience on Meru, in the Amphitheater at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
Free tickets will be distributed at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center box office (144 West 65th Street) on a first-come, first-served basis starting one hour prior to the talk. Limit one ticket per person, subject to availability.
