Half Waif is the project of Nandi Rose Plunkett, based in Brooklyn, NY. As a singer with a lifelong voracious and catholic appetite for musical influences, Half Waif brims over with sounds: underwater echoes of Celtic melodies; mossy, blinking electronic soundscapes; the ultra-sad chord changes of 19th-century art music; and eternal, unending Bhajans. She brings her finely crafted glass menagerie of song to the Film Society joined by a live band, featuring Adan Carlo on bass and visual artist Zack Levine on drums. As a complement to the music, this set will feature Levine’s “textured avian projections.” Her website is www.half-waif.com.

Alex Tatusian is a graphic designer and writer working in New York. He specializes in print and packaging design and works on civic and social problems. His website is alextatusian.com.

That’s Not Hardcore is a movie about what happens to graphic design in New York City. Told silently by a wandering digital camera, it’s the story of the forgotten city and the commercial and industrial components that power it. It’s about the accidental, mistaken, deteriorated, nonprofessional, defaced, and unfashionable words and shapes of reality. The filmmaker will accompany the screening with a live drum set.
