Green Room
A favorite at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, writer-director Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room is an exceptionally constructed, ultra-violent horror-thriller in which a hapless band of punk rockers face off against a group of skinheads after witnessing an act of violence backstage. Starring Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Patrick Stewart.
A favorite at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, writer-director Jeremy Saulnier’s follow-up to his melancholy revenge film Blue Ruin is an exceptionally constructed, ultra-violent horror-thriller—featuring an unforgettable Patrick Stewart as a ruthless skinhead. Down-on-their-luck punk rockers The Ain’t Rights (Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, and Alia Shawkat) get an unexpected booking at an isolated, run-down club deep in the backwoods of Oregon. While backstage, they witness an act of violence they weren’t meant to see and must face off against the club’s brutal owner, Darcy Banker (Stewart), who has them trapped backstage and will do anything to protect the secrets of his nefarious enterprise. What follows is an unexpected, life-or-death showdown between the hapless band and their captors. Green Room is another masterful spin on genre filmmaking from Saulnier, aided by sharp performances from its cast, feverish sequences of violence, and a wildly chaotic soundtrack of hardcore songs. An A24 release.
