The well intentioned mailman of a rural village takes a detour from his delivery route to visit the traveling fair that has just arrived in town. Excited by the festivities and unaware that he is being mocked by some of the townsfolk, he becomes drunk. After watching a newsreel about the modern delivery techniques of the US postal service, he goes to great comical lengths to speed up the service on his own route, even though his only form of transportation is a bicycle.  As in his later visual comedies, Tati’s first feature masterfully pokes gentle fun at the American obsession with modern technology.
