In this sparkling musical comedy, featuring choreography by the legendary Busby Berkeley, Powell stars as the eldest daughter of a New York family who blossoms into womanhood during a summer vacation in the Catskills. When a dashing entertainer (Ricardo Montalban) arrives on the scene, Powell’s Patti finds herself vying with her best friend (Phyllis Kirk) for his affections, and in conflict with mom and dad over her “premature” development. An 18-year-old Debbie Reynolds also shines as Patti’s tomboy sister, especially in the show-stopping “Aba Daba Honeymoon” number—the highlight of a tuneful score that also includes “A Heart That’s Free,” “Oceana Roll” and “By the Light of the Silvery Moon.”
