Scene Photo Veer
Greg Fredette, USA, 2009; 98m
Narrated by Matthew Modine, Greg Fredette’s Veer is an inside look at bike culture follows five lives invested in and growing alongside a booming social movement: a designer of extreme “freakbikes,” a bicycle rights lobbyist, a bike safety instructor, a member of an all-woman mini-bike dance team, and a world traveler bringing his profound cultural experiences astride a bike home. These remarkably different personalities intersect to inspire a level of change and community growth they never anticipated.

Screening with a whirlwind review of the annual Round*Up Compact Bicycle Festival’s Fast Fold Showdown, Lynette Chiang, USA, 2007; 7m.

FREE PANEL DISCUSSION
The Blueprint for the Future Upper West Side
A Roadmap for Truly Livable Streets

Wednesday, May 13 at 6:30pm
Frieda and Roy Furman Gallery
Presented with Transportation Alternatives

Following a year of community-driven planning, the Upper West Side Streets Renaissance Campaign offers the first look at its Blueprint for new bikeable, walkable, and high-performance streets. The first neighborhood-wide plan incorporating the full range of improvements being considered by the NYC Department of Transportation, the Blueprint details safer crossing for pedestrians, physically protected bike lanes, better managed parking and restricted through-traffic on residential streets.

This exclusive panel will include Peter Arndtsen, District Manager of the Columbus Amsterdam BID; Peter Frishauf, Transportation Alternatives; Mary Beth Kelly, Board of Directors and co-chair of the Advisory Council at Transportation Alternatives, Board of Directors of Safe Streets Inc., member of the Leadership Group of the Upper West Side Streets Renaissance Campaign; and Dee Rieber, President of the 75th Street Block Association, member of the Leadership Group for the Upper West Side Streets Renaissance Campaign.

Transportation Alternatives’ mission is to reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile and to advocate for bicycling, walking, and public transit as the best transportation alternatives. For more information visit transalt.org
