Shortmetraje
A collection of Spanish shorts selected by film curator Marta Sanchez. Total Runtime: 85. Visit Pragda for information about this cultural initiative.

This is a year of creativity for Spanish short filmmakers. In a turmoil of hallucinatory imagination, these directors present their wildest hopes and dreams in different forms, from experimental plays to shouts of happiness. Free from any convention, this year’s artists have undressed their souls and minds. Come enjoy the journey.

Libra (Carlota Coronado, 2006; 4m). Two weeks. That’s all Libra’s main character asks for. Coronado reports on everyday issues in this very short film with a great impact.

The Happy Man (El hombre feliz, Lucina Gil, 2006; 14m). Gil’s keen eye responds well to a daring and humorous question: Does the Happy Man exist?

Avant pétalos grillados (Velasco Broca, 2007; 10m). A surreal extravaganza inspired by a tale by Elier Ansgar Wilpert.

Said’s Journey (El viaje de Said, Coke Riobóo, 2007; 12m). Said, a Moroccan boy, crosses the Strait of Gibraltar. On the other side, in the land of opportunity, he discovers the world.

Traumatology (Traumatología, Daniel Sánchez Arevalo, 2007; 22m). Arevalo once again gives us an assured and captivating tragicomedy: Antonio’s wedding day starts well enough, but an unexpected event forces all the family to spend the night at the hospital.

You Can Walk Too (Cristina Lucas, Spain, 2006; 10m). When dogs walk on their back paws, there will be justice for women. Lucas makes sure things work out that way and causes a memorable procession through a Spanish village.

Angel’s Fire (Fuego de Angel, Marcelo Bukin, 2006; 13m). Eight-year-old Angel works all day in a brick factory in his village near Lake Titicaca, Peru. Angel’s Fire poignantly depicts forced child labor in a community where poverty and despair drive parents to abuse.
