Ned Kelly Series: Leading the Charge: Woodfall Film Productions and the Revolution in '60s British Cinema [July 2007] Director: Tony Richardson, Country: United Kingdom, Release: 1970, Runtime: 99 Ned Kelly (Mick Jagger) returns home after serving a three-year prison sentence, only to find that the law is still after his family. So he and his criminal brothers begin terrifying the Australian authorities, becoming folk heroes to the common people. The story of Ned Kelly has been told several times on screen; Richardson hoped to trade on Jagger’s outlaw image in the press to give his version of the Australian Robin Hood more resonance for contemporary audiences. Again employing a fractured narrative style, he juxtaposes moments from different parts of Kelly’s life to provide a context for his criminal rampage. The soundtrack, sung by Waylon Jennings with acoustic accompaniment by Kris Kristofferson, is a cult favorite.
