Flow: For Love of Water
Green Screens
Tuesday, February 26 at 6:30 pm

Irena Salina (director) and Maude Barlow (author and co-founder of the Blue Planet Project), William Marks (author and water advocate) and Kathryn Garcia (Assistant Commissioner, NYC Department of Environmental Protection) will be present at this Green Screens event to discuss the issues raised in the film and answer questions from the audience. Barlow and Marks will also be signing copies of their new books. A reception will follow, featuring Cool Stories for When the Planet Gets Hot, a collection of eleven short films with very different takes on the water issue, produced by Artport.

“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” –– W.H. Auden, “First Things First”

From Africa to Canada, India to the California coastline, Flow visits communities that are finding innovative solutions to local water problems––or are facing life-threatening consequences due to ignorance or inactivity. French documentarian Irena Salina sounds the alarm on a global crisis with this unflinching investigation of water politics, pollution and human rights. She provides telling insight into the greed and opportunism that might be behind the loss of this vital natural resource, and confronts a disturbing reality that can no longer be ignored.

Special thanks to Envirosax.

The Film Society's Green Screens program addresses through film the vital environmental concerns of global warming, the safety of our food supply, sustainable living, and more. Each screening includes a discussion and reception with artists and expert commentators, where we invite non-profit organizations and others to provide materials and raise awareness of the many positive actions we can all take.

In addition to this series, the Film Society screens PSAs showcasing climate change, sustainability and other matters concerning the health of our planet and its inhabitants. We are one of the first movie theaters in the country to regularly screen such PSAs and we encourage other theaters to join us.
