Kaddim Wind: Moroccan Chronicles / Ruah Kaddim – Chronika Marokait
Series: Israel at 60 [May 28 - June 5]
Director: David Benchetrit, Country: Israel, Release: 2002, Runtime: 255

"A nuanced, if outraged portrait of history. Enormously rewarding!" - George Robinson, The Jewish Week

"A passionate argument and a brilliantly constructed account of the continuing oppression and struggle of Moroccan Jews within Israeli society." — 2002 Jerusalem Film Festival

The history of Moroccan Jews in Israel is told through the memories of six second-generation immigrants to Israel, each telling his or her dramatic story about the difficult and even painful process of absorption.

The film presents an array of archival footage interwoven with intimate, startling interviews as it moves from the dramatic events of 1948 through today: large waves of immigration and selection processes, life in transit camps, the settling of the border areas and development towns, the protests, the Wadi Salib revolt, the struggle of the Israeli Black Panthers in the '70s, the creation of the Shas (the Orthodox Sephardi party), and up to Prime Minister Ehud Barak's plea for forgiveness from the Mizrahim, Jews from Arab and Muslim countries. Winner of the Best Documentary award at the 2002 Jerusalem Film Festival.
