This gothic mixture of haunting romance and oddball characters based on the novel by Victor Hugo stars Conrad Veidt as a disfigured man with a permanent smile. He falls in love with a beautiful blind woman (Mary Philbin), but their relationship struggles to survive the machinations of royals, jesters, gypsies, traveling circus performers, and a heroic dog named “Homo the Wolf.” Renowned silent film composer and accompanist Ben Model creates the chills for this silent masterpiece with a new score live on the mighty Miditzer™ virtual theater organ, while Veidt’s performance, a key source for the design of Batman’s fabled nemesis The Joker, will stick with you well into Halloween night.
