The Chaplin Award Gala is the Film Society’s most significant fundraising event, helping to support the organization’s ongoing work to enhance the awareness, accessibility, and understanding of the art of cinema.
The tribute will feature film clips and speeches by many acclaimed actors, directors, and colleagues, culminating with the Award presentation.
The Gala Dinner, which will take place on the Promenade at the David H. Koch Theater, offers guests the opportunity to dine with many notable attendees in a more intimate environment.

The Annual Gala began in 1972 and honored Charlie Chaplin, who returned to the U.S. from exile to accept the commendation. Since then, the award has been renamed for Chaplin, and has honored many of the film industry’s most notable talents, including Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Laurence Olivier, Federico Fellini, Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, James Stewart, Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Sidney Poitier, Catherine Deneuve, Barbra Streisand and, last year, Robert Redford. The evening’s festivities will begin with the Gala Tribute program at 7:00 p.m. For those attendees who purchase Gala Dinner + Tribute tickets, a special dinner will take follow the Tribute at 9:00pm.
The evening’s attire is cocktail.
Tribute-only tickets range in price from $100 - $500.
For Gala Dinner + Tribute tickets, the face value of each ticket less $300 is tax-deductible. Please consult your tax advisor as to your individual circumstance with regard to tax deductibility.
Tribute-only tickets will be available for pick-up at the Alice Tully Hall Box Office. When ordering online, you may also select Print At Home tickets. Gala Dinner + Tribute tickets will be available for pick-up at the VIP desk in the Sunken Plaza in front of Alice Tully Hall the night of the gala, unless previous arrangements have been made via the Gala RSVP line ([email protected] or 212.875.5076).
