Blackout for Human Rights (Blackout)’s fifth annual #BlackoutBlackFriday, taking place on November 23, 2018, continues to be part of a nationwide call to action encouraging individuals to refrain from shopping to protest social and economic injustice in the U.S. and instead engage in cultural activism. The Film Society of Lincoln Center is once again proud to take part in this event by hosting a special conversation with filmmaker, producer, director, artist, and musician Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, Random Acts of Flyness).

In the summer of 2018, Terence’s television series Random Acts of Flyness debuted on HBO to great critical acclaim, and was renewed for a second season by the network. The New York Times hailed the show as “a striking dream vision of race” and “hypnotic, transporting and uncategorizable” adding that “it’s trying to disrupt and redisrupt your perceptions so that, finally, you can see.”  In the fall of 2018, it was announced that Nance was tapped to write and direct Space Jam 2, starring LeBron James.

Terence will be joined in conversation with filmmaker, producer and director Michèle Stephenson to discuss the role of art and film to drive social change.
