With New York’s heat about to reach blistering levels in the upcoming weeks, this week’s edition of our Community Corner asks what your favorite film to take place during the summer is. And just to reiterate: the film does not have to have been released in the summer but rather set during the summer.
With that clarification made, frequently popular mentions included Alfonso Cuarón’s Y tu mamá también, Walter Hill’s The Warriors, Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing, and Lucrecia Martel’s La ciénaga. The most popular directors cited were Eric Rohmer and Yasujirō Ozu, while certain films with the season in the title (500 Days of Summer) were included for fun.
A full list of recommendations submitted by community members from across the globe can be found below, as can the theatrical trailer for the Rendez-Vous with French Cinema 2021 selection, Summer of ’85, from director François Ozon, which will open in our theaters on June 18th.
To see what’s playing and coming soon to our theaters and the FLC Virtual Cinema (and to familiarize yourself with our reopening health and safety protocols), join our online community on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Letterboxd, and don’t miss a thing by subscribing to the weekly newsletter.
The underrated option here is Hilary Birmingham's Tully (2000), starring Julianne Nicholson and Anson Mount. https://t.co/CVVDSVHlV1 pic.twitter.com/BKy55vNOj6

Dazed & Confused is the obvious choice, but The Way Way Back is very underrated (and has one of Sam Rockwell's best performances) https://t.co/Ji25QGk71T pic.twitter.com/J5wKcxrwMv
