Sebastian Silva's Magic Magic.
The various Cannes Film Festival sidebars are coming together at a clip. The Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des RĂ©alisateurs) section of the upcoming event was unveiled Tuesday and includes two selections from January's Sundance Film Festival: Sebastian Silva's Magic Magic starring Michael Cera and Jim Mickle's thriller We Are What We Are. The pair join a total of 21 features and nine shorts in the sidebar, which runs May 16 – 26.
The selection includes eight first-time features, as noted with asterisks. First features are contenders for Cannes' Camera d'Or prize, which last year went to Benh Zeitlin's Beasts of the Southern Wild. The film went on to garner Oscar nominations including Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Lead Actress. As previously announced, the section will open with Ari Folman's The Congress.
