The Hollywood Foreign Press Association revealed their nominees for the 71st Golden Globes with American Hustle, 12 Years A Slave, Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Gravity and Inside Llewyn Davis among the top nominees. Steve McQueen's NYFF debut 12 Years A Slave and David O. Russell's American Hustle led the pack with seven nominations each on Thursday morning. 12 Years was nominated in the Best Motion Picture, Drama category along with Gravity, NYFF51 Opening Night film Captain Phillips by Paul Greengrass, Philomena, and Rush.
American Hustle received a nomination in the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category along with NYFF51 Closing Night film Her by Spike Jonze, the Coens' Inside Llewyn Davis, Alexander Payne's Nebraska and Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. In the Director category, Greengrass, McQueen, Payne and Russell along with Alfonso CuarĂłn (Gravity) received nominations.
Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and Robert Redford (All Is Lost) were among the nominees in the Best Actor, Drama category, while NYFF51 tributee Cate Blanchett received a nomination for Best Actress, Drama for Blue Jasmine.
Fellow NYFF51 actors Bruce Dern (Nebraska), Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis) and Joaquin Phoenix (Her) took nods for Best Actor, Comedy or Musical, while Greta Gerwig received a nom for Best Actress, Comedy or Musical for her role in NYFF50 feature Frances Ha.
Cannes Palme d'Or winner Blue Is the Warmest Color was among the Foreign Language nominees. It was joined by The Great Beauty (Italy), The Hunt (Denmark), The Past (Iran) and The Wind Rises (Japan).
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host the 71st Golden Globes January 12 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. The awards event will be broadcast live on NBC.
