“Godard forever!”

So went the cry from the audience moments before the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Jean-Luc Godard's 3-D opus Goodbye to Language this past May. There, the film garnered near-universal critical praise, with Manohla Dargis of The New York Times calling it “a thrilling cinematic experience” and Amy Taubin of Film Comment declaring it “a masterpiece, a film attuned to a future that likely will not come to pass.”

Goodbye to Language went on to be a sold-out hit at the recent 52nd New York Film Festival and, on October 29, it opens here at the Film Society of Lincoln Center for what's sure to be an equally rapturous theatrical run.

In his New York Times Critics' Pick review of the film, A.O. Scott added: “It is baffling and beautiful, a flurry of musical and literary snippets arrayed in counterpoint to a series of brilliantly colored and hauntingly evocative pictures.”
