As New Directors/New Films heads into its final stretch, FilmLinc takes a look at images from this year's edition so far.

For 44 years, ND/NF has been a beacon for audiences to see some of the best work by filmmakers who are relatively new in their craft. Many of this year's filmmakers will surely go on to shape cinema in the decades to come, following in the footsteps of the festival's past directors, including Spike Lee, Margarethe von Trotta, Wim Wenders, Pedro Almodóvar,Terence Davies, Hou Hsiao-hsien, John Sayles, Steven Spielberg, Sally Potter, Chen Kaige, Agnieszka Holland, Michael Haneke, and Wong Kar Wai.

Founded in 1972 as a co-presentation of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New Directors/New Films has been an annual rite of early spring in New York City, bringing exciting discoveries from around the world to adventurous moviegoers. Even as the production and exhibition of cinema have dramatically evolved over the decades, the spirit of innovation and the element of surprise that have always defined this festival remain a constant.

ND/NF opened with Marielle Heller's The Diary of a Teenage Girl last Wednesday and will close this coming Sunday with Rick Alverson's Entertainment.
