Just added for a second week at the Film Center, John Turturro’s Passione is being held over and moving to our state of the art Amphitheater where the director spent an hour talking about the film last week. The musical documentary, about the sights and sounds of Naples, will screen multiple times each day in Lincoln Center’s living room.

“Naples is a melting pot,” explained John Turturro, during an extended Q & A at the Film Society last weekend, calling it, “A city of many influences.”

“You feel this collision,” Turturro elaborated during the chat with Italian journalist Andrea Visconti, describing the merging of cultures in the city. “It reminded me of New York City,” he added, “Especially in the 70s when things were more dangerous in New York.”

Turturro’s Passione features 23 songs performed by a variety of musicians, many of the performers originally from Naples itself.

“We let let each performer tell their story through the song,” Turturro concluded, “Each song is a window, or a street, into Naples.”

In a new article just published in The New York Times, A.O. Scott called Passione a must-see documentary, praising it as, “A vibrant, impressionistic tour of the musical traditions of Naples, Italy.”

Passione will screen on Friday, July 22 at 2:15 PM, 7:40 PM and 9:40 PM and on Saturday July 23 & Sunday July 24 at 2:15 PM, 4:15 PM, 6:15 PM and 8:15 PM. Next week, Monday thru Wednesday, it will screen at 6:15 PM and 8:15 PM.
