The Room

Ivana Jurić's short film The Room is playing in Shorts Program 1 of New Directors/New Films on Saturday (March 24) and Sunday (March 25). It is enigmatically described as stop-motion animation that explores sensuality and sex through the eyes of a doll…

Describe The Room to someone who hasn't seen it.
I would describe it in five words: doll, love reverie, sex and pain.

If you could work with any artist alive, who would it be and why?
Woody Allen. I just love the way he tells the story and his brilliant dialogues/monologues.

What are you most excited to do while you're in NYC?
This is my first visit to NY and I just want to feel the city.

What would you be doing if you weren't making films?
Small pet’s veterinarian. 🙂

What is your favorite (and/or least favorite) movie and why?
My favorite short movie is Chris Marker's The Jetty from 1962. Although Marker's movie is made from black and white photographs, the perfect scenario and setting create a sense of motion that pulls you into narrator’s role. I have watched it dozen times and I still admire his genius.

From what types of art, other than film, do you draw inspiration?
From painting. It delights me so much that I have started to paint myself. Currently I collaborate with painter Fedor Fischer, and together we create under the name JUFI.

What is your favorite food to eat on set?
Salad and pancakes.

Which parts of the filmmaking process do you enjoy the most? The least?
I enjoy the whole process, from the screenplay to the editing. The least I enjoy is physical pain after a few months spent in front of computer, which I heal with good wellness treatment.
