“Velvet Bullets and Steel Kisses: Celebrating the Nikkatsu Centennial
Japan's Nikkatsu Corporation has enjoyed a rich history of film production and distribution since 1912. As it approaches its 100th anniversary, Nikkatsu’s motto “We Make Fun Films” remains as true today as it was in its golden era. Come enjoy some of their classics in this special 37-film series running throughout the festival. Members can purchase a four-film pass for just $28 ($40 for non-members)! We particularly recommend Rusty Knife (pictured, Howard Gilman Theater, 8:15pm), a harbor-set noir thriller from Toshio Masuda. Today's other offerings include Take Aim at the Police Van (Howard Gilman Theater, 5:00pm, RUSH TICKETS AVAILABLE!*) and Intimidation

Shame, 12:00pm, Alice Tully Hall

My Week with Marilyn, 6:30pm + 9:00pm, Alice Tully Hall
Centerpiece Gala. Michelle Williams accomplishes the near-impossible—portraying Marilyn Monroe as an actual person, not just an easily caricatured icon—in this charming bio-pic centering on the production of her 1957 film, The Prince and the Showgirl. (NYFF Spotlight)
