After the success of last year's cast reunion for the 10th anniversary of The Royal Tenenbaums, this year the Film Society and NYFF will celebrate another widely-loved film: The Princess Bride!

Directed by Rob Reiner (This is Spinal Tap) and adapted by William Goldman from his novel of the same name, the film was released in 1987 and has since gone on to become a cult classic. On October 2, the same day the film is set to be released on Blu-ray, members of the cast and Rob Reiner will gather at the Film Society to celebrate its 25th annivesary as part of the 50th New York Film Festival. The brilliant cast members participating in the post-screening conversation will be Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, Carol Kane, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn and Robin Wright.

Film Society's Progam Associate Director Scott Foundas commented on this momentous event: “We're delighted to screen Rob Reiner and William Goldman's wry, irreverent and thoroughly enchanting fable on this historic anniversary, from a beautiful 35mm print, in the presence of so many members of its original creative team.”

The pristine 35mm print is provided by the Academy Film Archive, and this unique celebration is presented in partnership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and New Wave, the Film Society's young patrons group. Patrick Harrison, the Academy's New York Program Director, said via statement: “The fact that The Princess Bride has stood the test of time is testament to the film’s timeless screenplay adapted by William Goldman, multi-talented director, actor and producer Rob Reiner and stellar ensemble cast.  The Academy is proud to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration and the 50th anniversary of the New York Film Festival.”
