And that’s a wrap! Thanks to all who came out for the 54th New York Film Festival. The festival’s final week was a tremendous success, with many U.S. and world premieres, star-studded red carpets, and a wealth of free talks and events.
On the Thursday before the final weekend, Natalie Portman joined director Pablo LarraĂn on the red carpet for a special U.S. premiere presentation of Jackie, LarraĂn’s new biopic about the beloved First Lady. Highlights of that Friday evening included the premieres of two films starring the legendary Isabelle Huppert: Mia Hansen-Løve’s Things to Come and Paul Verhoeven’s Elle. The same night, Ang Lee’s newest, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, had its world premiere in the groundbreaking frame rate of 120 frames-per-second; cast members on the red carpet included Kristen Stewart, Steve Martin, and of course, Ang Lee himself. Closing out the 54th Film Festival on Saturday night was the world premiere of James Gray’s The Lost City of Z, a drama based on the real-life experiences of British explorer Percy Fawcett. Talks from the final week of the festival included HBO Directors Dialogues with film legends Paul Verhoeven, and Ang Lee, as well as Film Comment‘s Festival Wrap discussion.
