It was a historic night last Friday as we presented the first ever film series on Governors Island. Presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Trust for Governors Island, and produced by Rooftop Films, Escape in New York: Outdoor Films on Governors Island launched with a screening of John Carpenter’s action classic Escape from New York, perfectly accompanied by the Lower Manhattan skyline.
Free screenings throughout the summer take place on the newly restored eight-acre parade ground during Governors Island’s Late Fridays. All screenings are free and open to the public with pre-show entertainment kicking off at 7:00pm, including a beer garden and food vendors. Films begin at dusk.

Watching John Carpenter’s ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK on Governors Island tonight was surreal and magical. That same skyline inside and outside the screen… pic.twitter.com/kV51hSr09M
