Film Comment’s festival of movies returned in its 19th edition this month with a selection of titles curated by the magazine’s editors, offering strikingly bold visions, mixing New York premieres of new films and long-unseen older titles that deserve the big-screen treatment. The festival kicked off with the New York premieres of two new films from Oscar winners Steven Soderbergh’s High Flying Bird and László Nemes’s Sunset. Beatriz Seigner also joined us to present the U.S. premiere of her metaphysical refugee tale Los Silencios.

Over the weekend, we held the North American premiere of the Chilean documentary Los Reyes and a portion of ticket proceeds was donated to Hearts & Bones Animal Rescue. The special screening was preceded by a special meet and greet with some of Hearts & Bones adoptable dogs. As part of our revival screenings, we played Honeysuckle Rose as a tribute to cinematographer Robby Müller and director Jerry Schatzberg joined us to discuss his Willie Nelson-starring film.
