It was quite an eventful evening on Day 6 of the 59th New York Film Festival! With her film making its much-anticipated “hometown debut,” writer and director Maggie Gyllenhaal introduced New York audiences to her debut feature, The Lost Daughter, inside a sold-out Alice Tully Hall.

Based on the 2006 novel by celebrated author Elena Ferrante, Gyllenhaal’s film adaptation of The Lost Daughter features an incredible, all-star cast, many of whom were on hand for last night’s screening: Olivia Colman, Dakota Johnson, Jessie Buckley, Ed Harris, Paul Mescal, Peter Sarsgaard, and Dagmara Dominczyk. In addition to participating in a Q&A with NYFF Director of Programming Dennis Lim following the screening, Gyllenhaal and her cast reunited on our red carpet before providing a heartfelt introduction to the film. The Lost Daughter will open in theaters on December 17th and will premiere on Netflix beginning December 31st.
