The 58th New York Film Festival continued on Saturday, September 26 with sold-out Brooklyn and Queens drive-in screenings and the virtual nationwide premiere of the NYFF58 Centerpiece selection Nomadland. In director Chloé Zhao’s latest, adapted from Jessica Bruder’s acclaimed 2017 nonfiction book about itinerant older Americans, Frances McDormand delivers a beautiful performance of understated grace and sensitivity as Fern, a stoic, stubbornly independent widow who sets off in search of seasonal work.

“What’s remembered, lives.” Chloé Zhao’s latest not only encapsulates the implosion of the American Dream with clear references to the Great Recession, but it likewise feels like a prescient film that lays bare the inequities that covid made even more palpable in 2020 #Nomadland pic.twitter.com/z65Vo7xXV2
