The Lobster is the latest film from acclaimed Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos and it stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Lea Seydoux, and John C. Reilly as residents in a dystopian society where single people are sent to a retreat and must find a mate within 45 days or else be transformed into an animal. Before its NYFF premiere last fall, Lanthimos and star Ariane Labed joined selection committee member Gavin Smith to discuss the film at a press conference.

Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man divided critics when it was released in 1995, with Roger Ebert writing: “Jim Jarmusch is trying to get at something here, and I don’t have a clue what it is.” Since then, however, the film has become a cult classic, with Slant Magazine stating in 2005 that it is “likely Jim Jarmusch’s most stunning achievement.” During our full-career retrospective in 2014, Jarmusch joined Director of Programming Dennis Lim to look back on the film nearly 20 years later.
