We’ve recently updated our YouTube channel to include some of the most dynamic Q&As and live introductions from recent screenings here at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. As part of a Film Society Free Talk about the documentary Step, sponsored by HBO, producer Steven Cantor, coach Geri McIntyre, and three of the film’s subjects—Blessin Giraldo, Cori Grainger, and Tayla Solomon—joined us to discuss their Sundance hit, the ways in which the film’s success has changed their lives, and why step is so important to them. Following a screening of Water and Sugar: Carlo Di Palma, the Colors of Life, a documentary about the life and career of the cinematographer, director Fariborz Kamkari was joined by producer and wife of the late cinematographer, Adriana Chiesa Di Palma, for a conversation that focused on the difficulties they had in retrieving archival footage (particularly in regard to interviews) and the hopes they have for this film to inspire a new generation of cinematographers in this digital age. At the tenth annual Scary Movies festival, director Colin Minihan and star Brittany Allen spoke after the screening of their film It Stains the Sands Red, touching upon the ways prosthetics can limit an actor’s emotive capabilities and how they distinguished their zombie film within the horror genre. Other highlights include an introduction by director George Butler of his film Pumping Iron, which screened as part of the film series ’77, and Gang Dong-won’s acceptance of the Star Asia Award at the 16th Annual New York Asian Film Festival for his performance in Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned.
