For the past week, the Rendez-Vous with French Cinema festival has showcased the best in contemporary French film, including French box-office sensation The Intouchables and new work from master directors André Téchiné, Benoît Jacquot and Alain Cavalier. And while the festival will come to an end this Sunday, our closing weekend is packed with exciting new releases, and eight in-person appearances with the filmmakers and stars!
Closing things out Sunday night will be Delicacy, starring Audrey Tautou, the luminous star of Amélie and Coco Before Chanel, who returns to the screen with this touching portrait of a woman trying to put her life back together after an unexpected tragedy. Tautou, alongside Directors David and Stéphane Foenkinos, will be in attendance after both Sunday screenings for a Q&A. The shows are currently standby-only, but don't worry because the film will return to the Film Society next Wednesday for an extended run.
Also in attendance this weekend will be actors Jean-Pierre Darroussin, star of The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Well-Digger’s Daughter, as well as the wonderful Carole Bouquet for a special screening of her new film Unforgivable, directed by André Téchiné. There will also be a number of filmmakers here in person during the closing weekend to discuss their films. Director Fred Louf will chat about his charming and inventive spin on a classic tale of first love, 18 Years Old and Rising, and director Rabah Ameur-Zaïméche will discuss his inspiration for Smugglers’ Song, the Robin Hood-like bandit caper taking place in the years before the French Revolution. Finally, director Laurent Achard, actor Pascal Cervo and producer Sylvie Pialat will be here to talk about their provocative genre film The Last Screening, a cunning mix of Cinema Paradiso and Psycho.
