Roger Ebert Takes Leave
The long-time critic announced on his blog he is taking a “leave of presence” from reviewing while he tackles a recurrence of cancer. “It is being treated with radiation, which has made it impossible for me to attend as many movies as I used to,” Ebert wrote in his blog. “I have been watching more of them on screener copies that the studios have been kind enough to send to me. My friend and colleague Richard Roeper and other critics have stepped up and kept the newspaper and website current with reviews of all the major releases. So we have and will continue to go on.” Indiewire reports.

Gabrielle Hanna Resigns as Provincetown Film Society
Hanna is stepping down after serving as Executive Director of the Provincetown Film Society, which produces the annual Provincetown Film Festival, for 10 years. During Hanna's tenure, the organization grew from a five-day regional event to making PFS a year-round, internationally recognized arts organization on Cape Cod. Hanna has grown the organization’s budget from under $300,000 to over $1 million.  She spearheaded a three-year Capital Campaign, which has raised to date almost one million dollars dedicated to the purchase and renovation of the Waters Edge Cinema. The Cinema is now operating year-round in two screening rooms with state of the art digital equipment, and a video art gallery.

Bill Clinton to be Honored at GLAAD Media Awards
The former POTUS will be honored at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards with the first Advocate for Change Award in Los Angeles on April 20. Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence will serve as presenters at the awards. Clinton will himself serve as the Presenter of the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award to Barbra Streisand two days later in New York at the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual Gala.

Oscar-Winning Writer Ruth Prawer Jhabvala Dies at 85
Jhabvala's scripts, including Howards End and A Room With A View, earned her two Oscars. She made over 20 films with producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory over four decades. Born in Germany, she fled the Nazis as a schoolgirl, spending much of her life in India. She died at her home in New York, BBC reports.

Battered, Broken Oscar Sells for Over $100K
It is not the most ever paid for an Oscar statuette at auction, but it is significant that the $106,231 fetched price is for an Oscar that is tarnished with a cracked head and base that is in disrepair. The Oscar had been presented to screenwriter Charles MacArthur in 1935 for Best Story for The Scoundrel, which is not considered a major classic film, Deadline reports.
