As the restoration of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Mirror opens in our Virtual Cinema, we asked the Film at Lincoln Center community to share their favorite shots from the auteur’s filmography. The responses rolled in and proved that every impressive shot is worth revisiting in the near future.
From moments of contemplative stillness to devastating resolutions, the FLC community captured the pivotal frames that prove Tarkovsky’s poetic understanding of cinema. Shots from the black and white realms of Ivan’s Childhood and Andrei Rublev and the dizzying worlds of Solaris and Stalker were the most mentioned and added to the array of breathtaking stills. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation via Instagram and Twitter.
This ongoing series is a part of our Community Corner, which brings movie lovers together in a digital space for community and conversation.

Maybe this particular shot isn't as beautiful as others in Tarkovsky's filmography, but for me that moment of loneliness and desperation when the three men refuse to cross the door out of fear of what they really wish, of what they truly are…brings me to tears every single time pic.twitter.com/ToKSafWjJM

Gotta be this one from Andrei Rublev. In my opinion one of the best films ever made … pic.twitter.com/ou9dJzCshU
