Heading back to work after a holiday weekend is always tough, and with the added stress of Member priority ticketing for the 50th NYFF getting under way, it seemed like we could all use a little levity today.

The 24th New York Film Festival continued Film Society's tradition of showcasing the best cinema of the year through the work of auteurs such as Coppola, Jarmusch, and Tarkovsky. A serious mission, but one with plenty of room for fun. Today we look back at a small sample of 1986 lineup through 2012's hottest art form—the animated GIF!
